Emergency Support for Travelers Abroad

Emergency Support

*Tip: Add International 911 Numbers to your phone’s contacts list prior to your departure.

Contact the emergency services number in your country (International 911 Numbers) for immediate support. Travelers involved in a health or safety emergency abroad should work with local providers and contacts to engage appropriate emergency services if they are able to do so.

Individuals on university-supported travel requiring additional assistance abroad are instructed to contact University international assistance provider (CISI/Team-Assist) at +1 312 935 1703*. CISI/Team-Assist accepts collect calls, and is available 24/7 to assist with overseas medical, security or legal emergencies.

Students can reach the U’s Global Risk Manager directly at EmergencyAbroad@utah.edu or via the international assistance hotline at 385-228-9894.

Global Incident Management Team

The Global Incident Management Team (GIMT) is responsible for responding to international emergency or crisis situations.

Serious Injury or Illness

For all health emergencies, seek help without delay at the nearest medical facility and then, after admittance, open up a case with CISI Team Assist at any time by contacting +1 312 935 1703.

Medical Evacuation

If a University member’s medical condition requires an evacuation from their current international location in order to obtain further medical treatment - CISI Team Assist is available to open a medical file and assist with this process*.  Dependent on CISI's medical review, travelers may be evacuated to the closest location abroad where the necessary medical care can be provided, or back to the United States.  Contact CISI Team Assist at +1 312 935 1703 in order to obtain more information or direction regarding this process.

*In order for any medical or security-related evacuation costs to be covered by our insurance policy - all approvals and arrangements must be made by CISI Team Assist in conjunction with the attending physician (for a medical evacuation), or with i-JET (for a security evacuation).  University members are encouraged to contact CISI Team Assist as soon as possible to open a medical or security file if assistance is needed.

Security Evacuation

If a University member believes that specific security concerns in their area of travel warrant an evacuation, CISI Team Assist is available to open a security file and assist with this process*. Contact CISI Team Assist at +1 312 935 1703 for more information.
