‘3rd Annual Alumni Event’ and Alumni Awards Ceremony
- More than 200 alumni attended event at J.W. Marriott in Seoul
- Kwun Sook-Il, President of the Korean National Academy of Sciences, Cha Ki Chul, CEO of Inbody Co. received Distinguished Alumni Awards and, RHee Byung Geon, President of Green Cross Holdings received an Honorary Alumnus Award
December 5, 2016 – The University of Utah Asia Campus (Chief Administrative Officer, Chris Ireland) hosted its ‘3rd Annual University of Utah Alumni Event’ on Friday, December 2 at J.W. Marriott Hotel.
Being the third annual alumni event with the largest attendance of its kind, it was designed to promote fellowship and continuous exchange of ideas among the Korean alumni of The University of Utah. Current University of Utah Asia Campus students also attended this event, strengthening the relationship between the alumni who graduated from The University of Utah and its Asia Campus students.
The ceremony also spotlighted distinguished Korean alumni during the awards ceremony. Dr. Kwun Sook Il, former Minister of Science and Technology and President of the Korean National Academy of Sciences, was awarded the Lifetime Alumnus Award, Dr. Cha Ki Chul, CEO of Inbody Co., received the Alumnus Achievement Award, and Dr. Rhee Byung Geon, President of Green Cross Holdings, received the Honorary Alumnus Award.
Several notable alumni attended this year’s banquet such as Yong Tae Lee, Honorary President of Sambo Computer Co., and Doo Jin Han, Honorary President of the Korean Hospital Association and Shin Hyun Chul, Chief Executive Officer of Danam Industrial Company, among others. The event also featured student performances and speeches.
Dr. Chris Ireland, Chief Administrative Officer at The University of Utah Asia Campus said, “We hope this event will provide opportunities for broad networking with the Korean alumni of The University of Utah. Through continuous cooperation and information exchange, I hope that the alumni of The University of Utah will be able to take a leading role in society as a global leader in all parts of the world.”
The University of Utah’s Asia Campus opened in Songdo on September 2014, and is the first overseas liberal arts university in Korea, offering undergraduate degrees in communication, psychology, social work and one graduate degree in public health. The faculty, education curriculum as well as the management of all programs such as admission, graduation, and diploma management are directly managed by The University of Utah Salt Lake City Campus.
In 2017, The University of Utah Asia Campus will add four new programs to the roster of degrees offered, including a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Film and Media Studies, Bachelor of Science in Urban Ecology, Master of Science in Biomedical Informatics and a Juris Doctorate.
Students will be able to apply for the two new undergraduate degrees, starting in Spring 2017 semester and two graduate degrees, starting in Fall 2017 semester.
The university will accept student applications until Jan. 16, 2017, for the Spring 2017 semester and admission will be granted on a rolling basis. More information on The University of Utah Asia Campus, including how to apply can be found at asiacampus.utah.edu.
